The Effects of Proactive Coping and Positivity Ratio to Life Satisfaction and Depression
Hyun Seung-Ju

Abstract
Proactive coping is a pre-preparation step to minimize the impact of expected stressful events, and is a process of recognizing stress events as challenges and actively managing them. This study focused on proactive coping, a concept that incorporates the proactive and positive aspects of coping, and in detail exmained that proactive coping positively influences life satisfaction and negatively influences depression by mediating the positivity ratio. To this end, 150 Korean adults were asked to complete Proactive Coping Inventory(PCI), Positive Affect and Negative Affect Schedule(PANAS), State-Trait Depression Inventory(STDI-K), and Satisfaction With Life Scale(SWLS). The results revealed that proactive coping partially mediated positivity ratio, which had a negative effect on depression and positive effect life satisfaction. These results may serve as a theoretical basis for considering interventions that promote proactive coping levels in a way that reduces depression and increases life satisfaction. Based on this, implications and limitations of this study, and suggestions for future studies were discussed.
